Does your company have an "innovation statement"?

Companies use positioning statements as a guide to help them differentiate themselves in the marketplace. But now there's a need for another type of statement: the Innovation Statement.

Because the world is changing at an accelerating pace, a company's success is often dependent on its ability to learn quickly and remain flexible enough to keep pace with sweeping changes in its industry. Therefore, innovation itself is highly respected.

As an exercise, think about what your answer would be if a reporter asked you, "What innovation is your company developing or proving now?" Write your answer as an innovation statement. For example, (blatant self-promotion) our innovation statement at The Phelps Group is: We've devised a way to focus the brains of the entire company on client challenges, while keeping the accountability with the client-based team.
